Life is Beautiful – This is why!

As a photographer, I get to see and experience life through my lenses.  If you think about it, it is somewhat of a confined point of view even when the other eye is open.  But something magical or even mystical occurs when I capture moments such as the one below of my beloved God-son. The joy found in his expression as my brother-in-law pours snow over him is priceless! We often don’t appreciate these moments because they occur in the blink of an eye and when we do see them, they fall back into our memory banks sometimes to be forever stored. But in a mystical sort of way, his expression is captured forever and our minds and hearts can now be reminded that because of these moments, life is beautiful and should always be Cherished. There is nothing sweeter than the smile and the joy of a child, and as a photographer, there is no greater blessing than to capture those moments.

Melina and David

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing this mother-son duo..actually, it’s more like mother and sons as Melina is soon to give birth to her second son! You may recognize David as I also photographed him as he turned one! As a photographer, there is no greater pleasure than to grow with clients. To see how much David has grown in just one year is really amazing. You can see David’s one year photos here.

I photographed Melina in Miami Beach right by the South Pier. The day was stunning!

Melina wanted to photograph David playing with his favorite toy. He loved riding under the sun.

After riding for a while, David decided to refresh himself under the water with his older brother.

Thank you Melina and David for the great time!

Children Portraits: Emily

Last week, along with Diana came Emily. Emily’s parents wanted to see if their daughter would allow me to photograph her as she is very shy. Well, she was doing great posing for Diana’s mother point-and-shoot, but when she saw my big camera, she ran away! Well, I was up for the challenge! Knowing that she may feel more comfortable with Diana at first, I asked her to sit by the rail tracks with Diana for a few shots.

Sooner than she could say “cheese” she realized she was all alone in front of my camera and the shyness went away! From this point forward she wanted to imitate Diana in every way possible and would even give her some tips on posing!!! She was so cute to photograph! Enjoy the images below.

Photographing children is not about how they can or cannot pose. I often see parents become initially frustrated because they want their child to “pose” for the shot in a specific way. My answer to them is always the same: “Let them be…Let them get used to the environment and the camera.”  I believe that the best way to photograph children is by simply letting them be themselves without the force of a “pose” that may  cause agitation and even some tears. In the photos below, I did not, in any way, tell Emily how to pose. I merely placed her in the different places and she did the rest! Yes, sometimes a little help here an there is necessary, but children will express who they are without much effort if you are patient enough.

The shots above where really the “warm-up shots.” After these, Emily took charge of the whole thing! It was sooo much fun!

Children Portraits: Dueñas Girls

Last weekend, while in Canada, my wife and I went to Kitchener to celebrate my birthday and hang out with the in-laws. On Monday morning, I had the opportunity to photograph the Dueñas Family and their beautiful girls.

You may remember I posted an image of them a few days ago. If not, click here.

We headed over to Victoria Park and I was able to capture the girls as they are. I think that the best way to photograph children is to let them be themselves without worrying about pose; this is where photography captures their true essence.

The girls had a great time modeling in front of the camera and running around trying to feed the Ducks and Geese. I had a fantastic time capturing the girls and although it was no easy task keeping up with them, it was certainly fun. Oh did I mention that I I got Geese and Duck poop all over me? Yep! While photographing some of the girls, I knew I had to lay down on the grass to get those great shots, so I did just that, except that the grass in that area was full of poop.  I got home all smelly, but proud of my images! LOL!!

Please enjoy the images below and the slideshow!
